A great summer at Ace Tennis

/ Author: Chris Osborne

Looking back at having so many tennis players from all over the world was incredible. Who would have thought there would be players from 19 different countries all meeting in London to have fun, make new friends and enjoy the greatest sport there is!

A big thank you should go to the amazing coaching team and their efforts to deliver the best possible tennis camp experience for all the players. The coaches worked tirelessly to ensure all of you were happy both on and off the court. Therefore it is great news so many of the coaches will be returning to  be part of the team again next summer. Extra big thanks to our new English language Head Teacher John, who provided the best learning environment for all of you involved in the Ace Tennis Language Program. Everybody was so engaged and motivated thanks to John's passion and knowledge.

There were so many amazing memories from the past season and one of the best was the arrival of Fernanda Poblete from Santiago, Chile. It was the first time Fernanda had left her home country and to see her joy of being in England after arriving at Heathrow Terminal 5 was amazing, especially considering the 18 hour journey!

Every summer the staff look on in pleasure as some many people from different backgrounds, speaking different languages all engage with one another and create lasting friendships. Alexei Ermoshkin from Moscow and Javier Blasco from Madrid were a prime example of this. They had met at Ace Tennis in summer 2014 and stayed friends and returned this summer to share a room at Royal Holloway and Queenswood. They had so much fun, even when asked to vacuum their room for all the popcorn everywhere, they somehow made that into a fun time as well with some crazy dancing.

Another very pleasing memory was Ricardo Jacinto who was attending all the way from Mozambique. He originally signed up for two weeks and the night before he was due to leave his Aunt rang to ask if he could stay another week because he was having so much fun, the exact same thing happened the following week and Ricardo stayed for four weeks! This is so rewarding to know you are all enjoying the experience so much.

Thank you as well to all of you that took the time to provide feedback, after countless trips to London Airports, 8 cinema trips, 6 Wimbledon trips, 4 London trips and hours and hours of tennis it really does mean a lot. Each year feedback from players and parents helps prepare for the following year.

The tennis program was another source of great joy as the introduction of some new aspects were very well received. A great example of this was "Double Wednesdays" allowing all of you to learn, practice and apply the finer tactical points of being a great doubles player. This promotes good communication and team work. It really worked, with high fives flying everywhere and some spectacular doubles play. Stephen Eliott later mentioned it had been his highlight of the week, he was able to use his new knowledge in his local doubles league to great effect immediately.

As you all know the incredible facilities allow the tennis program to be very diverse and encourage different ways of learning. Ultimately the success of the tennis program is down to the players and the effort, enthusiasm and dedication they bring to each week of the camps.

Finally, a big thank you to every single person that made this summer so special.  Coaches, players, English teachers, venue staff and sponsors. Lets all look forward to next year!

Let the countdown for Ace Tennis Camps 2016 begin!
