Tips to be a better tennis player and athlete

/ Author: Chris Osborne

Dedication

Regardless of your level or ability there are certain things a tennis player can do to improve their game and also develop themselves as an athlete. Ace Tennis Camps is committed and passionate about each player maximising their potential and hopefully you will pick up a few tips in this blog article.

In order to improve as well as having great coaching, a player must also have the desire to do the extra work away from organised practice time. This helps the player understand more and want to know more information from all those around them. Improving nutritional habits can assist in maximising each players potential.  This is part of preparing better than your opponents for a tournament or team event.

Embracing the struggle of improvement and the challenge means a player is understanding of what they need to do to improve. Tennis in particular is a sport that is always going to throw road blocks and challenges your way. How you tackle these hurdles is key to improvement.

Dedication to having a great attitude towards all areas of improvement is something every player can work on, this can encompass improving as a communicator so you can relay better information to your coaching team. Being able to give feedback on your matches to your coaches can help them understand what you need to focus on.  Its part of a player taking responsibility for their game.

The Ace Tennis Camps team schedule daily matchplay and have found that allowing players to discuss and analyse their performance is a worth while exercise.  The environment of the camps allow all players to engage in constructive feedback.

To maintain constant improvement players must never forget to keep mastering the fundamentals. This could be split step and ready position or it could be making sure your tennis bag is packed correctly for the day's conditions on court.

Intangibles

There are things some players have inbuilt into them. The ability to never stop competing no matter the score or scenario. The intangibles are often what separate players who all possess talent. Attention to detail and making sure all the small things are accounted for can make the difference. Its often quoted that players inside the world's top 50 all have similar levels of talent, its the mental strength and will to succeed that separates them.

Patience

Having patience in a players development is very important. Some players have a fixed mindset, this usually means a player is unwilling to adopt new methods for fear of losing in the present. A good example of this is a change of grip on the serve mechanics. The current serve is adequate but may come unstuck in the future.

Players with a growth mindset are more willing to accept loses in the present, knowing their endeavour and handwork will pay dividends in the future. This can be one of the key aspects of improvement over a sustained period.
